For the last 1.5 years, we have rented a property that was previously a sanctuary. During that time, we have rescued hundreds of animals. We originally intended to purchase this property, but we now realize it is too small to meet the needs of our community. We need more space to humanely rescue more animals than we currently can.
To most wisely use your donations, we have selected this property. It is about 30 minutes outside of San Miguel de Allende and isolated, which means we will not have neighbors who object to the noise of a sanctuary. (Here in Mexico, that can result in someone pouring a lot of poison over your gate/fence to kill your animals and make the problem go away.)
We have a lot to do in a short amount of time, but have developed a two-stage process to ensure the best use of our donors’ funds. We will buy and develop one part of the land first, and then we have the opportunity to double the property, under reasonable terms. That will double the space we have now, and there is even an option to expand beyond that if we have the financial support.
Our top priority right now, beyond paying for the property, is to clear the land and build dog runs because our timeline for moving is not up to us. Our current property is up for sale and once they sign a contract to sell it, we have two months to move, a condition we agreed to since we opted not to buy the property and they graciously extended our lease an additional year.
This is a big challenge, but we are excited to have a permanent location to save thousands of animals. There is much to do in a short time. A local architect and other experts are helping us plan this all.
Send us a hurray! and a cheer, as we make the first sanctuary of its kind in Mexico. And the property will be eventually turned into a trust, so that it will remain a sanctuary, always. Our gift to Mexico!
YOU MADE THIS POSSIBLE! THANK YOU!
